The bag drop was manned, but the young lad didn’t seem to want to leave the hut even after waving at me – not a great start! Struggled to get served in outdoor area unless I went to the bar. Pro-shop got an “afternoon” but no conversation.
Really good practice area for irons and driver with a couple of big trees to aim at. Short game area was more than adequate and didn’t see the Swing Studio. Practice green appears to be an afterthought and a mowed area next to the first tee, but does its job.
This in my opinion is a corporate golf course – they don’t seem to understand a 4 ball turning up and playing and wanting to use the facilities. We were literally coming off the course on a very hot afternoon and headed to the outside bar set up in the summer to find him closing and telling us he will be 10 minutes, closer to 20 he took our drinks order!
Some great golf holes on the Colt course, we played the end of July after a very long dry spell and it looked like parts of the course were struggling especially new grass laid on the 13th tee. It’s a course where you have to play the distance and we did enjoy the day, but didn’t catch the course on a good day! Birdies on the picturesque Par 3 7th certainly put smiles on our faces.
Do I want to say stuffy, just think they are more used to dealing with corporate and charity golf days or maybe a different type of golfer!
Yes, feel I have to BUT wouldn’t rush back!
Believe we caught the course on a bad day and in the middle of a tough summer with very little rain, you just believe it should be offering more! Staff were not attentive, except the guy at the half way hut, it was closing when we got there (even though people on course) but allowed us to buy through the back of the kitchen as the bar area was locked up. Have spoken to Corporate groups and a couple of charities who use the resort and they love it, I guess different priorities and staffing levels when not busy. At £2500 joining fee and £3750 a year golf membership maybe I am not there type! Green fees are right up there – be warned.
